"Moxibustion"
"Lingshu – The Nine Needles"
Excerpted from "Huangdi Neijing – Lingshu" (Volume 1), this is one of the foundational works of acupuncture and moxibustion medicine.
In the chapter “The Nine Needles,” not only are the shapes and indications of the nine types of needles systematically described, but the unique therapeutic value of moxibustion is also emphasized.
"When medicine cannot reach it, and acupuncture cannot treat it, moxibustion must be applied."
— Lingshu – The Nine Needles
📜 Original Excerpt from “Lingshu – The Nine Needles”
"When disease strikes deep, it connects internally to the five viscera and externally to the limbs; this is how many illnesses begin. When pathogenic factors penetrate deeply and persist without resolution, they take form. Where acupuncture cannot reach, moxibustion is appropriate."
"Where acupuncture cannot reach, moxibustion is appropriate."
💬 Modern Interpretation
"Over two thousand years ago, the Huangdi Neijing stated: where acupuncture cannot reach, moxibustion must be used. The penetrating warmth of moxa fire can invigorate yang, unblock meridians, and reach deep tissues. It is especially suitable for chronic conditions, deficiency syndromes, and cold-damp constitutions, helping to restore balance and expel pathogenic factors."
When disease penetrates deep into the internal organs or lingers over time, with hidden pathogenic factors, acupuncture alone may not be effective. In such cases, **moxibustion is uniquely capable of warming the meridians, dispersing cold, and restoring the body’s natural healing power.
