Moxibustion

🌿 What Is Ginger Moxibustion?

Ginger moxibustion is a form of traditional Chinese moxibustion therapy. Fresh ginger slices (about 0.2–0.3 cm thick) are placed on selected acupoints, and ignited moxa cones are positioned on top of the ginger. By combining the warming and dispersing properties of ginger with the heat of moxibustion, this method helps to warm the meridians, dispel cold, tonify yang, and unblock energy pathways.

Mechanism of Action

  • Heat Penetration: The heat from burning moxa is released gradually through the ginger slice, penetrating deep into the tissue while preventing direct skin burns.

  • Therapeutic Properties of Ginger: Ginger is pungent and warm in nature; it disperses cold, relieves pain, and supports yang energy.

  • Dual Stimulation: The synergy of heat and ginger’s volatile compounds improves local circulation and enhances therapeutic effects.

  • Immune Modulation: Promotes local blood flow and supports qi and blood regulation, especially in cancer recovery.
